As a Human Resources professional and business owner, I want to draw your attention to the alarming statistics from the recent Gallup survey about employee engagement. The survey found that only one-third of workers are engaged in their jobs, and the other two-thirds are either not engaged or actively disengaged.
These numbers are concerning, to say the least. Employee engagement is critical for any business to succeed because it affects productivity and morale. Employees who are engaged in their work are more productive, creative and loyal to their employers.
However, the survey also revealed something else: remote and hybrid work has a major impact on employee engagement. Gallup found that remote and hybrid workers reported higher levels of engagement than those who work in traditional office settings. This is likely due to factors such as increased flexibility and a better work-life balance.
These findings are backed up by this quote from Gallup’s chairman, Jim Clifton: “It is no surprise that employees who have the ability to work remotely — and who are given the trust and the tools to do so — are the most engaged.”
Business.com echos these findings by stating that “remote work is often seen as beneficial for the employee, but it can also have many benefits for the employer. Among them are higher retention levels, increased brand awareness, better communication, improved employee morale and higher productivity.”
This is something that small business owners need to take into account when making decisions about their work environment. Do you give your employees the freedom to work remotely or hybrid? Are you providing them with the tools they need to be successful?
Here are some other important tips for a successful hybrid and/or remote work model to help increase employee engagement:
The bottom line is that employee engagement is key to success. Remote and hybrid work can be a great way to boost engagement levels, but it needs to be done in a way that still allows for collaboration and connection with co-workers. If you take the time to create an effective work environment, you can ensure that your employees are engaged and thriving!
